Niger State Government plans to fund the 2022 budget with N100.4 billion capital receipts. The budget will be utilized on completing existing ongoing projects, especially to critical roads in the state.
The state’s Commissioner for Finance Alhaji Zakeri Abubakar disclosed the information to the press at a news conference in Minna while discussing the highlights of next year’s budget.
“The budget was a reflection of our desire and commitment towards consolidating our achievements in the previous years,” Mr Zakeri said. Strengthening the state security apparatus and completing vital ongoing projects are estimated to impact the lives of citizens positively.
The N100.4 billion amount is part of the state’s capital expenditure of N122.91 billion. It is 62.04 per cent of the entire N198 billion budget size, with N75 billion for recurrent expenditure.
He said the capital receipts consist of external and internal borrowing, including grants from various sources, which aim to speed up the infrastructural development in the state.
Aside from infrastructural development, the 2022 budget will be utilized to tackle security challenges in the state. It will help the government to step up against the criminal elements in the state, although it should also be noted the current security issues have greatly affected the effective implementation of the 2021 budget.
