‘Nigeria deserves respect on the global stage’, CDS fumes, says Canada visa denial must be addressed

General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) has said that Nigeria deserves all the needed respect in the global space.
Speaking on his ordeal at the Canadian Embassy after he was denied visa alongside other senior officers of the Nigerian Military, Musa said Nigeria will not tolerate any form disrespect from foreign nations.
He said this at the Defence Headquarters, on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, while dismissing speculations that he was denied visa because the Nigerian Armed Forces were not invited for the event in honour of veterans in Canada.
He said, “On the issue of visa denial, it must be addressed at all levels. Nigeria is a great nation, and we deserve to be treated with respect. We received an official invitation, followed due process, and complied with all requirements.
“The Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of State, the NSA – everyone was aware of this journey,” Musa said.
Giving more details into his Canada visa ordeal, the CDS said it is disappointing that key members of the Nigerian team – team captain, physiotherapist and medical doctors – were denied visas.
“For reasons best known to them, many crucial team members were not granted visas. The question remains, why? I am, however, pleased that the Federal Government is addressing the matter,” the CDS added.
