Senator Seriake Dickson, who represents Bayelsa West on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has described the deaths of former President Muhammadu Buhari and the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, as a double national tragedy.
In a condolence message on Tuesday, Dickson expressed deep sorrow and extended sympathies to the families of the deceased, the government and people of Katsina and Ogun States, the Daura Emirate, and all Nigerians.
His words: “Nigeria has lost two great leaders. On behalf of my family and my Senatorial District, I commiserate with the Buhari family, the government and people of Katsina State, the Daura Emirate, and Nigerians.”
He acknowledged the late former president’s dedication to national service, noting that Buhari was one of the few Nigerians privileged to serve both as a military Head of State and a two-term elected president.
“Former President Buhari clearly gave his all and has returned to his Creator. I pray that God grants his soul eternal rest and gives his family the strength to bear the loss,” he said.
The former Bayelsa governor also paid glowing tribute to Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, describing him as a revered monarch who devoted his entire life to the service of the Ijebu people and Nigeria.
He added: “I awoke to the news of the passing of our father, the respected Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland.
“There is no doubt that His Royal Majesty spent his entire life serving our people, having ascended to the throne at the young age of 26.”
Dickson, a prince of the Fidipote Royal Family, said the monarch’s 65-year reign brought peace, stability, and cultural pride to Ijebuland and Nigeria at large.
“As one of the sons he cherished, I appreciated his encouragement, support, and prayers.
“Today, I join all sons and daughters of Ijebuland at home and abroad in mourning the passing of our revered father and king, as we begin the celebration of a life well lived in service to our people, the nation, and humanity,” he stated.
