Nigerian Air Force personnel arrested in Kogi for allegedly transporting illegal arms

Troops of the 12 Brigade have arrested an aircraftman of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) for allegedly conveying firearms illegally in Kogi state.
The operation was conducted in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Tuesday night in Lokoja.
The suspect, identified as Anas Muhammad Fakai, was apprehended around 10:20pm at Kabba junction while in possession of two pump-action rifles and a Browning pistol.
Security operatives said Fakai, who serves with the 107 air maritime group in Benin, Edo state, claimed he was transporting the weapons to Mohammed Auwal Haliru, a police constable attached to a commissioner of police at the force headquarters in Abuja.
He also alleged that the firearms were sent by an inspector simply identified as Paul, who is currently serving at Government House in Benin.
According to a situation report seen by SaharaReporters, the suspect attended the Nigeria Police Secondary School in Gusau, Zamfara state, between 2015 and 2019.
The recovered arms and the suspect are now in custody pending further directives.
“Suspect and exhibits are in custody awaiting further directive,” the report stated.
