The Nigerian Army has promoted Second Lieutenant Princess Oluchukwu Owowo to the substantive rank of Lieutenant (Lt).
This follows her training at the prestigious Royal Military Academy (RMA), Sandhurst, United Kingdom.
Lt. General TA Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff, authorized the promotion in recognition of Owowo’s exemplary performance and dedication.
Owowo is the first Nigerian female cadet to complete training at RMA Sandhurst. She graduated with honors on April 12, 2024, during a colorful Sovereign Parade, alongside 24 other international cadets.
Before her training at Sandhurst, Owowo was a member of the 70 Regular Course at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA).
Her achievements at Sandhurst have been widely recognized, marking her as a trailblazer in the Nigerian Armed Forces.
Lt. Owowo’s success is seen as a significant milestone for gender equality and the inclusion of women in the Nigerian military.
The Army stated that her dedication and accomplishments serve as an inspiration to other female cadets, demonstrating that barriers can be broken, and excellence achieved in the defense sector.
The Army further said her promotion not only highlights her personal achievements but also reflects the Nigerian Army’s ongoing commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment.
