A Nigerian player, Ado Hadi, who played for CD Madridejos in Spain collapsed and died during his side’s home encounter against SP Cabanillas on Sunday.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that according to a statement by the Castilla-La Mancha Football Federation, Hadi collapsed ‘for no apparent reasons’ in the 39th minute of the ill-fated fixture.
The 20-year-old was treated by health workers who were present in the stands, using the defibrillator, but he did not respond. For half an hour, medical officials were unable to revive him. He was confirmed dead at the hospital.
“From the Castilla-La Mancha Football Federation and Castilian-La Mancha football, with its president Pablo Burillo at the helm, they are totally sad by the event.
“It is a difficult time for CD Madridejos,” Hadi’s club said in a press release.
CD Madridejos plays in Group II of the First Preferred Autonomous Region in Spain.
