Nigerian security agencies urged to take action against Gumi after Sheikh’s outburst on Wike, Tinubu

The Diaspora Support (TDS) led by Mallam Yunana Shibkau has denounced the recent remarks made by Sheikh Ahmed Gumi, describing them as divisive.

Shibkau, in a statement, noted that Gumi’s verbal attack on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, based on their ethnic and religious affiliations, is capable of heating the polity.

The TDS, representing a vast network of Nigerians in the diaspora, emphasised the urgent need for national unity and non-partisan efforts to address Nigeria’s challenges.

The group stressed the detrimental impact of Gumi’s comments, citing their potential to sow discord and impede the nation’s progress.

Expressing unwavering support for President Tinubu’s vision and Wike’s efforts in Nigeria’s development, the TDS urged immediate action against Gumi’s divisive rhetoric.

Part of the statement read:

‘’The constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria empowers Nigeria’s integration and inclusive leaving in the allocation of position and responsibility to any Nigerian irrespective of tribe, religion and political affiliation.

“Today, that resilient and unending insecurity that had almost brought our nation to her knees is a product of such manipulations and resort to primordial subscription in influencing and enforcing national policy and programmes.

“Gumi’s daring outburst, calling for Christians not to be entrusted with security matters, is a dangerous sowing of seed that will continue to weaken the very foundation of our national and collective existence; this is rather unfortunate and uncalled for.

“We categorically denounce this divisive rhetoric, as it undermines the principles of religious freedom and inclusivity that our great nation stands for. Nigeria is a multicultural society where every citizen, regardless of their religious affiliation, deserves equal rights and opportunities.

“We call on all Nigerians to continue to work to support the vision and programme of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as discharged by Barrister Nyesom Wike, who is serving as the minister of the FCT.

“We call on Wike to continue his patriotic work for the nation and refuse to be bogged down by baseless criticism and unpatriotic utterances that tend to undermine national security.

“We call on the appropriate authorities to take immediate action against Sheikh Ahmad Gumi for his treasonable statement and its implied offences, as it poses a grave threat to national security and social cohesion and our quest for unrestrained development.”
