Troops of the 7 Division/Sector 1 of Operation Hadin Kai, in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), have killed five Boko Haram terrorists during a successful ambush in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
The operation, which took place on Thursday morning, was made public by counterinsurgency expert and security analyst Zagazola Makama via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Saturday night.
According to Makama, the ambush occurred at approximately 9:45 a.m. along the Pulka road axis, near the Mandara Mountains—a known route frequently used by terrorists.
Quoting military sources, Makama stated: “The troops, deployed from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Pulka, engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle at a suspected crossing point.
“During the firefight, the ambush team neutralised five terrorists, while several others fled with gunshot wounds.”
Items recovered from the scene included two AK-47 rifles, one AK-47 magazine, four rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a bicycle, and three bags filled with grains.
The ambush is part of ongoing military efforts to rid the North-East region of remnants of Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) insurgents and to restore lasting peace to the area.
Security officials say the renewed offensive is yielding results, as operations intensify across known terrorist hideouts and infiltration routes in Borno and neighbouring states.
