Nigerian Troops Killed 10,937 Terrorists in 2024, Military Reveals

Over 10,00 terrorists were killed by troops of the Nigerian Military in 2024, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba has said.

Buba, while speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, said 10,937 terrorists were killed and 12,538 others arrested.

He also stated that a total of 7,063 hostages were rescued from various terrorists enclave across the country throughout the period under review.

In addition, Buba noted that 16,171 terrorist combatants and their families surrendered to troops of the Nigerian Military during different operations in 2024.

Troops of the military also recovered 8,815 weapons, 228,004 ammunition and prevented oil thieves from stealing product worth an estimated sum of N68.4 billion.

Giving a breakdown of the activities of the military across the different regions of the country during the year under review, Buba said, “Furthermore, troops recovered 538 assorted weapons; 13,198 assorted ammunition; destroyed 2,019 wooden boats and 2,612 illegal refining sites.”

He also said that troops seek to continue to strengthen collaboration with neighbouring countries and regional bodies and various security forces in its bid to fight terrorism.

Buba said, “On the whole, the war is not for the armed forces alone, but for all citizens. The military, therefore, urges for more citizens support, in order to win the war.”
