Nigerian Whiz Kid Bags 40 Scholarship After Record-Shattering Grade in US

Nigerian wonderkid, Achunike Okafor, has been celebrated in the United States over his educational exploits.

Okafor, who received an International Baccalaureate diploma, had a record-shattering 4.625 grade-point average from the school.

The New Jersey based Science Park High School at Newark consequently honoured him for his extraordinary performance.

A US-based online TapIntoNewark, reported that his GPA is the highest among Newark’s 2,649 graduates in the Class of 2023, and highest ever for the city public school district.

This consequently earned him over 40 scholarship offers from the nation’s top universities like Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Duke, Princeton, Penn State, Stanford, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Southern California, and Rutgers.

Speaking on his extraordinary feat, Okafor said: “I am grateful for the opportunities to attend such esteemed universities and to represent my family and community. I do not take lightly the privilege and responsibility to be among the few individuals selected for such honors.” 

Meanwhile, the 18-year-old plans to attend Harvard University to pursue a neuroscience degree.

The Nigerian prodigy also received high praise from the principal of Science Park, Darlene Gearhart. The pricipal declared that there is nothing average in Okafor.

“Achunike is an extraordinary (person). He’s humble, driven, and industrious. He has always been a great kid. He is always eager to learn,” Gearhart said.
