No less than 203 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) councillors in Ondo state have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
APC’s chairman in Ondo, Ade Adetimehin, who received the defectors on Wednesday, August 9, said the development signals an end to the state’s major opposition party.
He further said the councillors’ defection is evidence that the ruling party is united and battle ready ahead of the local government and governorship elections in 2024.
The Ondo APC boss promised the decampees equal representation in the party and encouraged them to be exemplary leaders at their various wards.
One of the defectors, Yinka Akosile, said he and his colleagues patiently waited in PDP long enough before deciding to join the APC.
He added that their decision was influenced mainly by what they described as the exceptional leadership of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
