Nigerians struggling to put food on their tables – Northern elders knock Tinubu over hardship

The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has slammed President Bola Tinubu’s administration, accusing it of turning a blind eye to the mounting hardships faced by Nigerians.

In a statement released Wednesday, NEF spokesperson Abdul-Azeez Suleiman condemned the “disheartening disconnect” between the government’s actions and the “grim reality” on the ground.

Suleiman said Nigerians are struggling to afford basic necessities like food, with the cost of living growing out of control. He lamented that while millions grapple with hunger and malnourishment, “those in power seem to be living in isolation or denial.”

“This indifference to the suffering of the people they are meant to serve is deeply troubling,” the statement said.

It added: “The consequences of this unchecked rise in inflation are devastating for ordinary Nigerians. Families are finding it increasingly difficult to afford basic necessities, as the prices of essential commodities such as rice, beans, and cooking oil continue to skyrocket.

“Moreover, the impact of inflation extends beyond the realm of food prices. Small businesses are struggling to survive as the cost of raw materials and transportation continues to rise.”

  1. Let the truth be told: it was terrible during Buhari but not to this extend. For example, maize in history has never been sold at a thousand naira per measure but last year and this year it’s being sold at that price. Yet you don’t want people to protest and speak out. What kind of government is this?
