Major General Aderonke Kale (Rtd), the first female Major General in the Nigerian Army, was laid to rest on January 19, 2024, at St James Anglican Church, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
General Kale, who passed away on November 8, 2023, at eighty-four, holds a significant place in Nigerian history as a pioneer in breaking gender barriers within the military.
Representatives from the Nigerian Army, led by Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Toareed Lagbaja, paid their respects to the late General during the funeral.
Major General Gbeminga Adesina, representing the Chief of Army Staff, acknowledged General Kale’s exemplary life, describing her as a dedicated and committed servant of the nation.
He said her achievements and rise through the ranks of the Nigerian Army serve as an inspiration to others.
A Service of Songs and Tribute Night was conducted on January 16, 2024, at the Admiralty Conference Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The wake keep took place at the Chapel of the Resurrection Hall, University of Ibadan, where friends, family, and colleagues gathered to honor and remember the late Major General.
The ceremony drew the presence of notable figures, including the General Officer Commanding 2 Division Nigerian Army, alongside other senior officers and commanders of the Nigerian Army.
