A self-styled disciple of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Simon Ekpa, on Wednesday said the Kenyan Government cannot be exonerated from Kanu’s controversial rearrest in the East African country, and subsequent transfer to Nigeria in June 2021.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that, according to Ekpa, Kenya saying it has no record of Kanu departing its country is insufficient. Finland-based Ekpa says he expects to “see a decisive action against Nigeria”.
“We cannot exonerate Kenya Government from collaborating with Nigeria Government to kidnap Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from Kenya and renditioned him to Nigeria. It is not enough for Kenya to claim the record show MNK didn’t depart from Kenya. We should see a decisive action against Nigeria,” Ekpa wrote on his known Twitter handle.
Kanu was first arrested in 2015 but disappeared while on bail in April 2017. His social media posts during his absence and his Radio Biafra broadcasts outraged the government, which said they encouraged attacks on security forces.
His lawyers alleged he was detained and mistreated in Kenya — though Kenya has denied involvement.
Kanu has filed charges alleging that he was illegally taken from Kenya and asking that he be repatriated to the United Kingdom (UK) where he is primarily based.
