Obasanjo’s daughter, Iyabo, resurfaces at public event after 12-year absence

Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello, the eldest daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, stepped back into the public limelight after a prolonged absence, attending an event in Abeokuta, Ogun State, marking her first public appearance in several years.

Obasanjo-Bello previously represented Ogun Central Senatorial District in the Senate from 2007 to 2011.

She experienced defeat in her re-election bid in 2011, losing to Senator Gbenga Obadara of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).

Following her electoral loss, she withdrew from the public scene and was reported to have relocated abroad, securing a lecturing position after the 2011 election.

However, after a hiatus spanning 12 years, Daily Trust reports that Obasanjo-Bello made a surprising comeback on Thursday at a reception honouring the immediate past Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Sarafa Tunji-Ishola.

The event, hosted at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), gathered notable personalities including former Ogun State governor Senator Ibikunle Amosun, Egba monarchs like Oba Adedotun Gbadebo (Alake of Egbaland), Oba Adedapo Tejuoso (Osile of Oke-Ona Egba), and Oba Saka Matemilola (Olowu of Owu).

Dressed in a locally made blue bubu gown fashioned from Adire fabric, Obasanjo-Bello made a remarkable entrance into the hall, drawing attention amid the gathering of prominent Egba dignitaries, politicians, and other personalities.

During a brief conversation with journalists, Obasanjo-Bello lauded Tunji-Ishola, referring to him as a valuable asset to Ogun State and Nigeria, expressing hopes for his continued success and contributions to the growth of the state and the nation.
