A chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has explained the reason behind the auto crash that led to the death of 22 athletes returning from the sports festival.
Olufemi Oguntimotinbo blamed the death of the athletes on the bad State of the roads across the country.
Oguntimotinbo also described the death of the athletes from the Gateway 2024 Games as distressing.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Oguntimotinbo said the incident was heartbreaking.
He urged the government at the federal and subnational levels to ensure the complete rehabilitation of roads in the country.
Commiserating with the families of the victims he said, “It’s a loss that strikes every mother and father and indeed every citizen.
“May the souls of these children be in peace and eternal rest,” Ajadi added.
