The FCT police command has debunked the viral news of the abduction of some residents in a housing estate along the Pegi Community in Kuje.
FCT police said no evidence of such an incident in the Federal capital territory.
Reports in the media has it that 15 people were kidnapped by gunmen, Sunday night, at the 1, 000 Housing Estate along the Pegi Community in Kuje Area Council of the FCT.
However, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Josephine Adeh, in a reaction to inquiry by the media, Tuesday night, said: “After an extensive investigation, including intelligence-led information gathering, the Police have found no evidence of such an incident.
“This is further supported by the fact that no victims or families of victims have come forward with any information or evidence of a kidnapping.
“The Police have reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety of citizens and urge anyone with any information related to the alleged incident to come forward for necessary action.”
According to the media reports on the alleged kidnapping incident, the gunmen attacked at about 11:30 pm, shooting sporadically into the air and abducted people who were returning from the city at the time.
Chairman of Pegi Residents Association, Taiwo Aderibigbe, disclosed that among the victims was a staff of the FCT Department of Development Control.
He said; “Gunmen abducted 15 persons along the abandoned 14-kilometre Pegi road. Out of those kidnapped is one Shuaibu Misa, a staff with the Federal Capital Territory Administration.(FCDA).
“We also observed that the husband of the woman sells second-hand clothing at the main entrance to the estate was among the people kidnapped while they were returning from work.
“The kidnappers have not contacted the families of those abducted at the moment, but we are still trying to identify other residents abducted.”
Director, FCT Department of Development Control, Mukhtar Galadima, reportedly confirmed that a driver with the department, Shuaibu Misa, was kidnapped and was yet to be released.
