Hon Charles Idahosa, a member of the PDP Board of Trustees representing south-south, has taken a swipe at Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki.
Hon Idahosa, in an interview with journalists in Benin on Tuesday, declared that the next Edo state governor must be a “homeboy” not an “imported financial magician”.
Politics Nigeria recalls that Obaseki was a businessman and an investment expert who spent most of his years outside Edo before becoming governor of the state.
While reacting to questions on the 2024 Edo state governorship election, Idahosa said: “This time around, nobody will come to tell us, he is this or that in Lagos or London that he wants to be the governor of this state. We will not accept that. He must be one of us, who knows everywhere, not an imported magician.”
Idahosa, a former commissioner of information, also advised the people of Edo Central Senatorial District to synergize and lobby the major political parties to select their candidates from the zone in order to make it a smooth sail to the government house in 2024.
“I have been saying it and I will continue to say it that for the Central Senatorial District to produce the next governor of the state, they must come together, speak with one voice and reach out to the other senatorial districts,” Idahosa said.
“This is because there has never been a time, where political contest is restricted to a given senatorial zone in the state and I can remember when Obaseki contested in 2020 some people in Edo Central also contested with him.
“My advice to our brothers and sisters in Edo Central is that they should synergize and come up with the best candidate and reach out to the other two Senatorial Districts then, the cost will be very clear for them to get it but for them to say the governorship should be zoned to them on a platter of gold will no longer be described as democracy”.
