The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike has assured that no individual can call him concerning his involvement in Rivers state politics.
Speaking while addressing some of his supporters over the weekend in Ahoada Local Government Area of the state, the minister dismissed reports that President Bola Tinubu would issue instructions concerning the political activities in Rivers and proposed support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
According to Wike, the claim that President Tinubu had called him concerning Rivers politics ahead of the 2027 general elections is false.
He said no single individual or political leader had the authority needed to summon him or give him instructions on the political affairs in the state.
Wike said: “I hear that people are boasting that they (President Tinubu) will call me and give me instructions. Let me tell you, there’s nothing like instruction as far as Rivers State is concerned. Nobody will call me. If you like shout ‘on your mandate’ 50 times a day, it won’t give you an automatic ticket.”
He further warned that no matter the level of support or loyalty the incumbent governor has for the power at the centre, he cannot be guaranteed an automatic governorship ticket in the state.
Wike’s warning to Fubara comes shortly after the latter defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Fubara’s defection is a sequel to the political squabble between him and Wike, his former boss.
