North-West to produce Gbajabiamila’s successor [DETAILS]

Three months to the inauguration of the 10 National Assembly, some lawmakers are already showing interest in the House of Representatives Speaker’s seat.

POLITICS NIGERIA learnt that the North-West region is likely to be left with the choice of producing the Speaker and Aminu Jaji from Zamfara State who was the Chairman, House Committee on Intelligence and National Security in the 8th assembly, the favourite.

Jaji who was a governorship aspirant in 2019 in Zamfara State was also the Director of Contact and Mobilisation for the Bola Tinubu-Kashim Shettima Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) for the North West zone. However, his ambition may meet stiff opposition in Aliyu Betara representing Biu Kwaya federal constituency of Borno State.

Betara, the current chairman of, the House Committee on Appropriations conceived his speakership ambition in 2019 when he was however pleaded by the powers-that-be to sacrifice such for incumbent Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila.

The odd against Betara who is returning to the House for the fifth time is that the vice president-elect, Shetima is from the same state of Borno as him and they are both Muslims.

But this newspaper gathered that Betara is more determined than ever to realise his ambition.

It was learnt that a good number of his colleagues who have benefited directly from his benevolence were ready to pay back by supporting his ambition.

In a piece of related news, the North Central Stakeholders Forum of the APC has demanded that the geopolitical zone should produce the next House of Representatives Speaker.

Dominic Alancha, Farida Odangi Sulieman and Mark Hanmation, made the appeal on behalf of the Northcentral stakeholders at a press conference in Abuja on Monday.

“It will not be out of place if we as a region call on our great party the APC to and zone the position of the Speaker of the 10th of representatives to the North central given her outstanding performance in the just concluded 2023 general election and for fairness and equity” they said.
