Northern Elders Declare Muslim-Muslim Ticket as Fraud, Make Revelations

Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the spokesperson for the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), has strongly criticised the concept of a Muslim-Muslim ticket, describing it as deceitful and fraudulent.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Baba-Ahmed expressed concern that politicians have exploited religion to taint Nigeria’s political landscape.

During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the NEF spokesperson highlighted how politicians have manipulated religious sentiments to undermine the country’s political system.

He pointed out that Nigeria previously had a Muslim president who served for eight years, but the situation in the North did not significantly improve during that time.

Baba-Ahmed raised a poignant question regarding the impact of a Muslim-Muslim ticket, citing an example related to Governor Nasir El-Rufai.

According to him, El-Rufai demolished numerous houses, predominantly belonging to Muslims, on his last day in office. According to him, this example challenges the notion that a Muslim-Muslim ticket automatically benefits the Muslim community.

Baba-Ahmed labelled the concept of a Muslim-Muslim ticket as a fraudulent scheme perpetuated by politicians. He urged the public to be vigilant and recognise how these politicians are compromising the integrity of Nigeria’s political system by injecting religion into it.

“The sooner we open our eyes, the better,” Baba-Ahmed remarked. “Politicians are deceiving people by falsely linking a politician’s faith to their worth. However, a person’s faith does not determine their character or qualities. It is possible to be a Muslim and not pray five times a day, just as one can be a Christian with unpleasant habits.”
