The Federal Government has said that not all Nigerians excelling abroad are fraudsters and are engaging in fraudulent activities.
Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, made this known on her Twitter handle on Thursday while reacting to a fraud allegation levelled against Ramoni Igbalode, aka Hushpuppi by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
She said the arrest of the Instagram celebrity in the United Arab Emirates in connection with a $35m ventilator scam, is not a yardstick to judge Nigerians succeeding abroad.
The NIDCOM boss said her commission will wait for EFCC’s further and thorough investigation as well as further updates on the case.
Dabiri-Erewa, however, advise Nigerians abroad to be law-abiding citizens, be good ambassadors, and not tarnish the image of the country.
She tweeted: “Allegations against Ramoni Igbalode aka Hushpuppi running into millions in fraud. I stress again, not a yardstick to judge Nigerians excelling abroad. One bad apple should indeed not spoil the whole bunch.”
Also reacting, NIDCOM wrote, “We await EFCC’s further and thorough investigation as well as further updates on the case. We advise and urge Nigerians abroad to be law-abiding citizens, be good ambassadors, and not tarnish the image of the country.”
