A bandit has been killed by some operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Benue State.
It was gathered that tge bandit was killed during a fierce gun battle with members of his gang in Tse Anyineku community, Zaki-Biam, Ukum Local Government Area of the state.
The bandits were said to have invaded the community and attacked some farmers in the area.
Sources in Tse Anyineku said the armed criminals were met by resistance from police operatives deployed in the area.
The incident occurred on Thursday after the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ukum Division received a distress call at about 11:05 am, prompting a swift deployment of patrol teams to the area.
One of the sources said, “On arrival at the scene, the bandits opened fire on the police operatives.
“The patrol teams responded with superior firepower, forcing the criminals to flee into the Shetile forest,” a source said.
According to the source, one of the criminals was critically wounded and was identified by residents of the community as Terhile Ashiwa, from Ucha Mbatyu in Ukum.
A source said Adhiwa was taken to the General Hospital in Zaki-Biam, where he was confirmed dead by medical personnel.
His remains have since been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
Police authorities in the state have assured residents of intensified patrols and tactical operations to ensure that the criminals are apprehended and further attacks are prevented.
