Obasa Absent As Meranda Presides Over Lagos Assembly Plenary

The impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru was notably absent as his successor, Mojisola Meranda presided over the plenary on Monday, March 3.

At the commencement of the plenary, the impeached Speaker was sighted at the Assembly Complex but failed to be part of the ongoing session.

The plenary was presided over by Meranda who was appointed Speaker by lawmakers of the House following Obasa’s impeachment while he was away on January 13.

It was gathered that the ousted Speaker and his successor held a meeting outside the chamber of the complex before the commencement of the plenary at about 2 pm.

The meeting was attended by leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress which included the chairman of the party in Lagos, Cornelius Ojelabi

Others present at the meeting which took place under a tent at the Assembly Complex were Lawal Pedero, the Attorney General of Lagos State.

Obasa who arrived at about 1.30 pm later had a quick chat with Pedero and some other members of the party before leaving.

It is understood that the party stakeholders are working towards a lasting solution to end the heated crisis in the Lagos Assembly.

Other sources have also stated that there is a likelihood that Meranda will be stepping down from her position as Speaker today following the intervention from APC stakeholders.
