Obasanjo wants to ruin Nigeria with Obi endorsement – Sowore

The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, on Monday played down the endorsement of the Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi, by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, describing the former Nigerian leader as an ‘overrated three-time ruler who fetishises the ruination of Nigeria’.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the former president had in an open letter to young Nigerians on Sunday endorsed the candidacy of Obi.

“Obasanjo’s repeated endorsement of @peterobi shows once again that the overrated three-time Nigerian ruler fetishises the ruination of Nigeria.

“For us, we crave and are satisfied with the endorsements of the people!” Sowore wrote on his verified Twitter handle.

This newspaper reports that Obasanjo’s support does not guarantee any candidate victory in a presidential election but he is considered in some quarters one of the most influential Nigerians alive.

In 2019, he supported his former vice, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), against incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari. Buhari won that election.

However, before then, the candidates Obasanjo supported in the presidential elections in 2007, 2011 and 2015 all emerged victorious.
