Ogun: Kidnappers kill schoolgirl after N1m ransom received

In a devastating turn of events, a 16-year-old schoolgirl was found dead in Ogun State on Sunday, September 1, just one day after her father paid a one million naira ransom.

Habeebah Akinsanya, a student of Lisabi Grammar School in Abeokuta, was kidnapped on Friday in Mile 6, Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area.

Her father, Aremu Akinsanya, a member of the state’s So-Safe Corps, reported the abduction to the Kemta Police Station.

The kidnappers later demanded N1 million for her release, which Mr Akinsanya transferred to an Opay account as instructed. He was then directed to a location near Obasa to retrieve his daughter.

However, when Mr Akinsanya arrived on Sunday morning, he discovered his daughter’s body brutally mutilated, covered in soldier ants, and with multiple machete wounds.

Shockingly, the kidnappers contacted him again, demanding a second ransom.

The police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed that the case was initially reported as a missing person but was later updated upon discovering the girl’s death.

The police are continuing their investigation into this horrific incident, and the Akinsanya family is now preparing to bury Habeebah according to Islamic rites.

She would have celebrated her 17th birthday in October and was set to begin her SS3 class this month.
