Ogun protesters steal LG Secretariat’s mace

Hoodlums who were part of the protesters in Sagamu, Ogun State on Monday stole the mace of the council’s legislative house.

POLITICS NIGERIA had earlier reported that violent protests erupted in Sagamu on Monday morning as protesters register their displeasure over the scarcity of new Naira notes.

The protesters barricaded the road, attacked and burnt Union Bank, First Bank and Keystone Bank branches bank branches in the area.

Subsequently, the hoodlums advanced to the council secretariat, invaded offices and carted away with the mace – the symbol of the authority of the House.

They reportedly shattered windows and broke doors at the secretariat.

The council chairman, Afolabi Odulate, confirmed the development.

“Yes, they did invade the secretariat. No one was attacked. We had moved workers away before they arrived here.

“They stole the mace. Yes, they did,” Odulate said.

This newspaper understands that normalcy had returned as police and soldiers have taken over the community.
