Ohanaeze Ndigbo Defends Wike, Calls Abuja Protests Handiwork of Opposition

Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, has condemned the recent protests in Abuja against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, dismissing them as the handiwork of opposition parties.

In a statement, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, specifically called on the opposition to allow Minister Wike to focus on his duties and avoid politicising his role.

“The politically sponsored protests in Abuja on Wednesday 6th December 2023 were mobilized by an opposition Governor and Presidential candidate to score cheap political goals and distract Wike, who is one of the pillars of Tinubu’s administration,” Isiguzoro said in the statement.

He added that while Nyesom Wike is of Ikwerre origin, which falls within the Igbo ethnic group, the Ndigbo will always stand by their own. He urged President Tinubu to disregard the antics of the opposition and their attempts to destabilize his administration.

Isiguzoro stated that Nigerians know that President Tinubu is an experienced leader and father of the Nation.

The organization added that “ethno religious sentiments should not be brought into every facet of our national development! Competence and capacity to deliver infrastructural and economic development in FCT should be the watch word! And there is no doubt that Wike has the track record!”
