The youth wing of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo group has condemned the assault of a female National Youth Service (NYSC) member by some operatives of the Anambra State security outfit, codenamed Udo Ga-Achi.
Recall that the NYSC member, Jennifer Elobor was beaten and stripped of her clothes by the operatives who alleged her involvement with internet fraud (Yahoo-yahoo).
The attack on Elobor despite her producing her NYSC certificate to the operatives has raised outrage with Ohanaeze calling for the disbandment of the security organisation.
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Wing led by Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, the group’s self-acclaimed national President said the actions of the security operatives have become a long-standing menace across the state.
Nnabuike said there have been several unpalatable reports against the activities of the security operatives.
He said the personnel of the security organisation are now known to violate residents’ rights while engaging in a trial by ordeal.
“They are said to have brutalised several innocent people in the state, and engaged in jungle justice for far too long.
“Many rights organisations, including Intersociety, have been crying out for the atrocities committed by these operatives, but nobody listened.
“The case of Ms Jennifer Elobor is one of the many such atrocities and it has put to public view the kind of thing going on in Anambra State,” Nnabuike said.
He further called on the governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo to as a matter of urgency disband the organisation.
He also urged the state government to re-strategise its security plans and fashion out a fresh recruitment process inro the organisation.
“There should also be a compulsory drug test for anyone to be recruited to avoid a repeat of what Nigerians watched in this video.
“Having said this, we demand an open trial of the perpetrators by the Nigerian police; there should be no sacred cows.
“The victim should also be paid adequate compensation by the Anambra State Government,” Nnabuike stated.
