Ohanaeze Ndigbo to meet Tinubu as pressure mounts on president to release Nnamdi Kanu

As one of its plans to curtail insecurity in southeast, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has revealed the plans of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization to meet with President Bola Tinubu.

According to Iwuanyanwu, the visit to the president is to canvass for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Iwuanyanwu disclosed this in Owerri on Thursday when the leadership of Supreme Council of Nigeria Traditional Rulers, South East chapter led by HRH Eze Dr Oliver Ohanwe, the Obi Gburu Gburu of Igboland, paid him a courtesy cum solidarity visit.

He regretted that other ethnic groups in Nigeria had sold the dummy of perceived secession of the Igbo ethnic group thus creating undue fear and suspicion of every intention of the group before the Federal Government.

He pointed out that statistics have shown that Igbos, as critical stakeholders in Nigeria project, own over 60% of the investments in the country and that their assets and residential identities spread across all the nooks and crannies of the nation, unlike other ethnic groups that mainly invest and reside only within their ethnic geographical location.

His words: “Your request and solidarity visit have reinvigorated Ohanaeze leadership’s intention to see President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on issues concerning Igbo ethnic group, more especially the need to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu of IPOB.

“His continual detention is escalating insecurities in southeast. Let us see when he’s released, any person or group that will be instigating insecurities or crisis in Igboland using his name or detention.

“Some people and groups are illegally feasting on his popularity and detention just to cause unnecessary trouble and problem in the entire South East and for their own selfish interest.

“There must be peace and stability in Igboland. Immediate release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, will definitely restore sanity and unravel a lot for the benefit of the nation.”
