Nigerian football legends Austin Okocha, Nwankwo Kanu and Mikel Obi have been named among the African XI soccer stars to play in the English Premier League (EPL).
The illustrious list of African football royalties was announced at an event in Lagos on Thursday.
The “Premier League greatest Africa XI” was supported by SuperSport TV and was decided by football fans across Africa.
Okocha, who had a four year stint at Bolton Wanderers, was the highest-ranking Nigerian on the list.
Chelsea star, Mikel Obi, placed ninth on the list. The 36-year-old won two league titles, four FA Cups and one UEFA Champions League trophy during his 11 years at the London club.
Kanu was voted in 10th position for his exploits with Arsenal FC, where he won two league titles and FA Cup trophies. He was part of the Gunner legendary invisible squad that won the 2003/04 EPL title without a defeat.
Didier Drogba was named the best African player in the EPL, followed by Yaya Toure and Mohammed Salah who took the second and third spots, respectively.
Others on the list are Sadio Mane, Michael Essien, Riyad Mahrez and Edouard Mendy.
