A former representative of Ondo State on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) board and one-time gubernatorial aspirant on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform, Olugbenga Edema, has defected to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and emerged as its candidate for the upcoming governorship election.
Edema’s candidacy follows the sudden resignation and withdrawal of Oluwatosin Ayeni, the previous NNPP candidate, who cited the need to pave the way for a stronger candidate.
According to NNPP Chairman Peter Olagookun, Ayeni’s decision was voluntary.
During a special congress attended by national party leaders, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials, and delegates from all 18 local government areas, Edema said his mission is to liberate the oppressed masses from the hardships imposed by the APC-led state government.
The Ondo State gubernatorial election is scheduled for November 16.
