Former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Ondo State, Mr Eyitayo Jegede, has appreciated his supporters and all members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for choosing him as the party’s flagbearer for the October 10 governorship election in the state.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Jegede was declared the winner of the party’s primary election held in Akure on Wednesday after defeating eight other aspirants.
Jegede polled 888 votes to beat the deputy governor of the state, Mr Agboola Ajayi, who polled 657 votes; and the PDP National Vice Chairman, Dr Eddy Olafeso, who came third with 175 votes.
Also, the former commissioner defeated Dr Bode Ayorinde, who scored 95 votes, while, Mr Banji Okunomo polled 90, Senator Boluwaji Kunlere got 33, Sola Ebiseni scored 29 and Godday Erewa polled 13 votes.
Speaking to reporters at the end of the exercise, Jegede said his victory has brought an end to the maladministration of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the State.
He said with the support of the party, as well as that of the co-aspirants, the eviction of APC from the state come October 20, 2020 will be achievable.
He said “By the support of the people of the state, party members and the assistant of co-aspirants, we will take over the government of Ondo state, come October 2020.
“I dedicate this victory to the people of Ondo State and my co-aspirants who have shown great spirit of sportsmanship.”
Recall that Jegede lost the 2016 governorship election to the incumbent governor of the state, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of the APC. He will again be contesting against Akeredolu who is seeking re-election.
