Ahead of the October 10 governorship election in Ondo State, Banji Okunomo, a former Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared his ambition to contest.
Mr Okunomo, who spoke with journalists in Okitipupa on Sunday, stated that his decision to run for the position was borne out of the need to improve the standard of living of the masses.
POLITICS NIGERIA learned that Mr Okunomo picked his ‘Expression of Interest Form’ in pursuit of his gubernatorial ambition at the PDP’s secretariat in Akure on Saturday.
He, however, promised to execute people-oriented programmes and make sure the masses became part of the decision making in piloting the affairs of the state.
“I want to assure the masses that their lives will improve better if I become the flagbearer of my party and eventually win the governorship election.
“I have picked the expression of interest form yesterday in Akure and I will also be the first to obtain the nomination form which will be advertised next week,” Okunomo stated.
He, however, sought for the cooperation of the masses to ensure that he won the PDP primaries, as well as the state governorship election.
Recall that the opposition party had fixed the primary for the governorship race for July 22, 2020, two days after the primary election of the ruling All Progressives Congress.
As of the time of filing this report, the PDP is yet to agree on a consensus candidate owing to an internal crisis in the Ondo state chapter.
