The Nigerian Military on Thursday announced the deployment of soldiers to Ondo State ahead of the November 16, governorship election in the state.
According to the military high command, the soldiers will assist the Nigeria Police Force in maintaining internal security in the state during the polls.
Major General Edward Buba, the director of the defence operations in a statement said the Military personnel would work with police – the lead security – to ensure a hitch-free poll.
He also noted that the Nigerian Air Force has already been engaged to support the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to move all sensitive electoral materials by air.
He said, “Troops are also deployed in strength to provide assistance to the police in ensuring a hitch-free off-cycle governorship election in Ondo State, slated for November 16, 2024.
“Indeed, the troops’ presence is to ensure the security of citizens enabling them to cast their votes without any form of harassment or intimidation while keeping mischief-makers at bay,” he said.
