Ondo NUJ demands thorough investigation of attack on journalist’s residence

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ondo State Council has demanded a thorough investigation into the attack on the residence of Ondo State-based journalist and NUJ Correspondent Chapel secretary ‘Tosin Ajuwon.

The Ondo NUJ urged the Nigeria Police, Department of State Services, DSS, and other security operatives to put the case on top priority, saying that they were in shock and disbelief.

The news of the incident came amid the increasing number of attacks towards journalists across the country. Ajuwon’s Ondo residence was reportedly burgled by a number of hoodlums who stole vital documents and other valuables.

The hoodlums allegedly broke the window of Ajuwon’s apartment at Irese community in Ifedore Local Government Area. Other than vital documents, the burglars also stole two flat-screen television sets. Ajuwon claimed it was the second time that unknown persons broke into his property and stole valuable items.

“We have reported the case to the police in the Ijare Division and they have promised to ensure that they identified those who have perpetrated the evil act. I trust that the police would surely go after them.”

Speaking through a statement released on Tuesday, NUJ State Chairman Adetona Aderoboye and State Secretary Leke Adegbite advised the security operatives to toughen security around journalists and other media professionals in Ondo State to prevent similar incidents.

“Ondo NUJ shall work closely with men of the Nigeria Police to apprehend the perpetrators of the attack on Ajuwon without unnecessary delay,” the statement read.
