Ondo senator drags Aiyedatiwa to court

Senator Jimoh Ibrahim has sued the governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, following his victory  at the governorship primary election held in April.

In a suit filed at the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, Ibrahim is seeking the nullification of the Ondo State governorship primary election organised by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Senator Ibrahim is urging the court to void Aiyedatiwa’s nomination as the flag-bearer of the party for the gubernatorial contest billed for November 16, 2024.

Cited as defendants in the suit are the APC, Governor Aiyedatiwa, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The plaintiff, who represents Ondo South Senatorial District in the Senate, alleged that the primary election that produced Aiyedatiwa as the candidate of the APC for the governorship election, was fraught with irregularities.

The lawmaker, through his team of lawyers, led by Chris Uche, maintained that the party acted in breach of sections 221, and 228 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, as well as section 84 of the Electoral Act, 2022.
