The Ondo State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of Dr Olayide Owolabi Adelami as the state’s deputy governor.
Adelami, who contested for the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial ticket in 2020, underwent screening and gained approval during a plenary session presided over by Speaker Rt Hon Olamide Oladiji.
The confirmation followed an evaluation by the screening committee, headed by the Speaker himself.
The Clerk of the House, Jaiyeola Benjamin, had read the governor’s letter recommending Adelami’s approval on Wednesday.
Submitting the report at the plenary, the Deputy Speaker of the House, Abayomi Akinruntan, recommended the confirmation of the appointment of the nominees.
Akinruntan affirmed that the nominee has been properly screened by the lawmakers and the committee.
According to him, “the nominee responded to all questions raised by the Committee in a very eloquent and explicit order.
“He has a clear understanding of the position, he possess the required academic qualifications, physically, mentally and emotionally stable and fit to accomplish the task.
“The nominee possess the required experience, Charisma and the much needed exposure to function effectively.”
The Majority leader, Hon Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, moved a motion for the consideration of the report and the confirmation of the nominees. Felix Afe, representing Akoko North West 2, seconded the motion, leading to the Speaker’s ruling in favour of Adelami’s confirmation.
Speaker Rt Hon. Oladiji congratulated the Deputy Governor’s designate, urging him to give his best. He also pledged the House’s support to the executive for enhanced democratic dividends for the people of the state.
In reaction, Adelami thanked the governor for the nomination, vowing not to betray the confidence placed in him. He also appreciated the lawmakers for their thorough screening and confirmation, pledging to foster a harmonious relationship between the legislative and executive.
