Ondo State: Gunmen shoot government official, kill one

Omiwoye Sunday, a member of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) stationed in Ondo town, West Local Government Area of Ondo state, was shot and killed by unidentified gunmen on Sunday.

Sunday was murdered while attempting to intercede and stop the gangsters from harming some people who had been chased to his home.

The victim’s wife, Bunmi Sunday, stated, “My husband and I went to see one of his friends that stays on the same street with us. Suddenly, some men ran towards us at the gate. My husband was trying to park his motorcycle then. So, two gunmen came with bikes and started beating the boys that ran to us.”

Her husband confronted the gangsters, but they urged him to back off and instructed him to go into his house. The wife went inside while he remained outside, standing by his motorcycle.

Not long after, a gunshot was heard. So the wife dashed out the door, only to see her husband lying in a pool of blood. His phone and motorcycle key were taken by the attackers.

Later, it’s reported that the gangsters were following some people to Agbala, Ondo, and were beating a group of people when they were confronted by the victim as he parked his motorcycle behind Saint Monica’s Girl Grammar School.

The victim’s blood-covered body has been sent to the Ondo State Specialist Hospital morgue.
