One person has been killed and many others injured in a clash between members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and that of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Akure, the Ondo state capital.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that supporters of Rotimi Akeredolu, Governor of Ondo State, and Eyitayo Jegede, the governorship candidate of the PDP have been involved in series of clashes ahead of the forthcoming October 10 governorship election.
It was learned that the clash, which occurred at the Ọbanla area of Akure on Saturday, also saw many vehicles damaged.
According to reports, social and economic activities of the area were paralyzed for several hours and residents and passers-by of the area had to run to safety while vehicular movement was halted during the clash.
Meanwhile, there was a reprisal attack on Sunday morning by suspected APC members, following an attack on their members last night.
it was gathered that the APC members, who were said to be about 70 in number, were armed with dangerous weapons. According to an eyewitness, many people have been injured during the clash.
During the clash, residents of Oba Adesida road and Arakale axis who were on their way to church were forced to return home.
As at the time of filing this report, policemen from A Division Police Station in Akure have been sent to the scene of the crisis to calm the situation.
