One dead, seven rescued as police raid kidnappers’ hideout in Niger state

The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the killing of one person, the rescue of seven kidnapped victims, and the arrest of 12 suspects in a series of operations targeting criminal activities across the state.

It was gathered that a gang of suspected kidnappers attacked Tungan-Boka and Masaha villages in Mashegu Local Government Area over the weekend, abducting seven residents during the raid.

According to police reports, the attackers fatally shot one Garba Mohammed during the invasion.

The police, in collaboration with local vigilantes, swiftly launched a rescue operation into the nearby forest.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident, stating that the rescue team, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), engaged the kidnappers in a gun duel within the Tungan-Boka forest area.

“As a result of the operation, the seven kidnapped victims were rescued unhurt while the kidnappers managed to escape. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects,” Abiodun said.

In separate operations, the police also made notable arrests for various criminal offences across different divisions.

Operatives attached to Tafa Division arrested three suspects at Dikko Junction in connection with a suspected stolen white Toyota Camry allegedly used during a robbery in Bosso Estate.

Similarly, two individuals were apprehended by officers of the Maje Division for allegedly specialising in the theft of tricycles.

In another development, the PPRO disclosed that a robbery incident at APC Quarters in Suleja led to the arrest of one Mubarak Mohammed by the ‘B’ Division Police.

His arrest reportedly aided in the apprehension of six other accomplices involved in the crime.

The Niger State Police Command reiterated its commitment to rid the state of criminal elements and urged residents to continue providing useful information to assist law enforcement efforts.
