One killed as robbers attack JAMB officials in Lagos

A 40-year-old man, simply identified as Peter, was killed in the early hours of Wednesday when armed robbers stormed Mabila Hotel in Ikorodu area of Lagos State, POLITICS NIGERIA reports.

According to the Police spokesman for Lagos Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, one Professor Odunsi, an official of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) who lodged at the hotel, was robbed of his two phones, one HP Laptop and N20,000 cash.

“Similarly, two female officials of JAMB, who lodged at the hotel, were robbed of their phones and jewellery,” Hundeyin said.

Peter, the hotel’s gateman, was gunned down as he attempted to prevent the robbers from escaping.

Compared to other parts of Lagos – Ikoyi, Lekki, Ikeja, Surulere and Yaba – Ikorodu seems to be an ungoverned territory controlled by underworld kingpins. As a result, a vigilante group, Onyabo, was set up in the Ikorodu axis to curb criminality.
