The minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, did not disappoint his loyalists and supporters in how he assumed office after being sworn in recently.
Wike’s choice of automobile for his first day at work has got many talking.
The former Rivers state governor arrived at the FCT Administration office on Tuesday, August 22, in an armoured SUV labelled ‘FCT-01’.
Wike, known to be dramatic in his public outings, had threatened immediately after being sworn in that he would not tolerate illegal buildings in the FCT.
Scores of pro-democracy demonstrators on Wednesday, August 23, threw their weight behind Wike over his threat of demolition of illegal structures in the FCT, saying the former governor of Rivers State was merely assuring Nigerians he would follow due process.
A group of protesters under the aegis of The Natives backed Wike, saying the panic over the minister’s alleged threat of demolition should not unsettle residents of the FCT.
Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, the Coordinator of The Natives, Edward Smart, disclosed that Wike only stated the obvious.
Smart said:
“We are reassuring Nigerians not to be afraid. The country has to become greater, and all of us will have to make sacrifices.”
