One week after recent explosion, another tanker burst into flames in Niger state [VIDEO]

Barely a week after a devastating tanker explosion in Niger State claimed over 100 lives, another fuel tanker has crashed, this time along the Agaie-Lapai Road in Niger State.

The tanker, carrying 40,000 litres of fuel and en route to Kaduna from Lagos, reportedly suffered a burst front tyre on Monday evening, causing it to lose control and crash into a nearby drainage before catching fire.

Eyewitness Abdul confirmed the incident, revealing that the crash led to a fuel spill, though no lives were lost.

He, however, said the driver, Shamsudeen Dayabu, and his motorboy sustained injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The Niger State Police Command’s spokesman, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the crash in a statement, noting that the road was temporarily closed to ensure safety but later reopened.

“On 27/1/2025 at about 6:30 pm, there was a lone fuel tanker accident with a fire explosion along Agaie/Lapai Road.

“The fuel tanker lost control due to a burst front tyre and fell into the drainage, resulting in a fire. Both the driver and motorboy sustained injuries but, thankfully, no lives were lost,” Abiodun said.

This incident comes just days after the tragic Dikko tanker explosion in Gurara Local Government Area, where over 100 residents lost their lives while attempting to scoop fuel from a leaking tanker.
