Open grazing: Youths cry to Plateau governor as herders kill teachers

The Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM) has called on the Plateau government to ban open grazing in the state.

The BYM said that open grazing is used as a ploy to continue unleashing mayhem on natives and residents of the state.

The group also called on the government at all levels to declare Fulani militias terrorists and be treated as such.

This call was made on Tuesday, August 15, through the BYM’s spokesperson, Rwang Tengwong, who spoke on the recent killing of secondary school teachers.

Tengwong said, “The Berom Youths Moulder-Association-BYM is, again, saddened over the invasion of BECO Comprehensive School Kwi, where two staff, Mr and Mrs Rwang Danladi, are reportedly shot dead and one Mr Dalyop Emmanuel Ibrahim, the Vice Principal of the School, left seriously injured by some known Fulani armed men alongside suspected bandits elements at about 3:00 pm of Monday, August 14 2023.”

As revealed by the association, an eyewitness noted that “the incident happened when staff were holding a meeting to compile the results of students due for release on Friday, August 18 being the school’s “Speech and Prize Giving-Day.”

The group said a local source revealed that “the bandits came into the school compound with their cattle and interrupted the Staff meeting.

“The staff had asked the Fulani to get their cows out of the school environment. But instead of complying, they brought out their arms and opened gunfire at the teachers.

“This resulted in the death of the recently wedded couple, Rwang Danladi and wife, Mrs Sandra Rwang Danladi, who are the staff of the school, while Mr Dalyop Emmanuel Ibrahim, who is the Vice Principal of the institution, sustained serious injury and is receiving medical treatment at the Jos University Teaching Hospital.”
