Oshiomhole Reveals Tinubu’s Immediate Solution to Mitigate Effects of Subsidy Removal

Former Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, has disclosed that President Bola Tinubu has a prompt remedy to alleviate the consequential impact of subsidy removal.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Oshiomhole made this statement during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics program.

The former governor stated that the issues arising from the removal of fuel subsidy would be expeditiously resolved through discussions between the Federal Government and organised labour.

Oshiomhole emphasised that Tinubu recognises the hardships faced by Nigerians due to the withdrawal of fuel subsidy and is determined to take swift action to mitigate the situation.

He stated, “The President acknowledges that the effect of the withdrawal is already being felt, and people are already experiencing discomfort. Therefore, an immediate solution must be found. Our discussions have centred around this, and the fact that we have another meeting scheduled for Tuesday indicates that we understand the urgent nature of this issue, especially for the most vulnerable groups.”

Oshiomhole, who is a former president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), participated in a meeting between the Federal Government and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) on Sunday.

He described the meeting as productive, noting that the government would consider all of TUC’s demands and provide a response by Tuesday.

Furthermore, Oshiomhole proposed that if Nigeria could save approximately N7 trillion by ending fuel subsidies, the Federal Government could allocate a portion of those funds to the wage sector.

He explained, “This is possible because the savings would be deposited into the federation account, which would be distributed among the three tiers of government. As a result, each level of government would have increased funds and should be able to accommodate the subsequent wage hike.”
