“Oshiomhole stoking ethnic tensions ahead of Edo election“ – Activist raises alarm

Chidi Odinkalu, a prominent human rights lawyer, has criticized Adams Oshiomhole, former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), for promoting ethnic division ahead of the Edo State governorship election campaign.

In a tweet, Odinkalu accused Oshiomhole of engaging in “Igbo-hating” rhetoric, referencing a comment where the former governor of Edo state referred to Ose Anenih’s mother.

Ose, the director of strategy of the Asue Ighodalo Campaign Organisation, is the son of a former minister of works, Late Tony Anenih, while his mum is Chief Josephine Anenih from Anambra state, herself a former minister of women affairs.

Ose had taken Oshiomhole to the cleaners 24 hours after the APC chieftain and senator representing Edo North senatorial district lied on national TV about a court judgement on Ighodalo.

Pained by Ose’s comments, Oshiomhole attacked the PDP chieftain at a rally organized by the APC, saying ”his mother is Igbo.”

Sharing the video of Oshiomole’s rant on X, Odinkalu wrote: ”In the campaign for #EdoDecides2024, Oshiomhole has returned to APC’s default setting: #IgboHating. Please, listen to him say #HisMotherIsIgbo.

”How low can these people sink? Who knows, maybe Adams would have been a little easier on the eyes if he had an Igbo mother too?”

Odinkalu’s tweet questions the integrity of Oshiomhole’s campaign tactics and suggests that such divisive remarks could deepen ethnic tensions in the state ahead of the election.
