Top members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including state governors, have thrown their weight behind suspended chairman of the party in Osun State, Soji Adagunodo.
POLITICS NIGERIA findings revealed that those defending Mr Adagunodo include the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, former governor of Osun State, Olagunsoye Oyinlola and Senator Olu Alabi.
Last week, this newspaper reported how Mr Adagunodo was suspended by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party and was ordered to hand over all party’s properties to his deputy, Atidade Akanfe.
Rather than do as instructed by the national leadership of the party, the suspended chairman has been at loggerheads with Mr Akanfe who is also demanding the mantle of leadership.
Sources told our correspondent that following the crisis in the party in Osun, the party leadership in Southwest has weighed into the matter.
Senator Alabi said Mr Adagunodo’s suspension is inadequate as he had no question to answer, not to talk of punishment.
The PDP southwest in a statement by its publicity Secretary, Ayo Fadaka, maintained that they know nothing about the predicament of the embattled chairman.
As of the time of filing this report, POLITICS NIGERIA understands that Mr Makinde and Mr Oyinlola have shown interest in the matter in defense of Mr Adagunodo.
