Otti fires back at Abure over suspension by Labour Party

The governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has slammed Julius Abure, the national chairman of the Labour Party, over his suspension.

Otti, while reacting to his suspension by the Abure-les faction of the party, described the national chairman’s action as that of a desperate clown.

Recall that Otti was suspended alongside other key members of the party, including Ireti Kingibe, Amaobi Ogah, among others.

However, in a statement issued by the governor’s special adviser on media and publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, Otti said Abure’s suspension cannot stand because he is no longer the chairman of the party.

The governor further called on the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to arrest Abure for impersonation.

In addition, Otti called for the full implementation of the Supreme Court judgement on the national chairman’s position by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“The statement by Abure and his gang of comedians is not only a joke taken too far, but an affront to democracy by a group of inconsequential irritants who are desperate to use Gov. Otti’s name to advance their self-serving economic agenda.

“For the records, the highest court in the land, the Supreme Court of Nigeria, has rightly and unambiguously stated that Julius Abure is no longer the national chairman of the Labour Party.

“The judgment which is in agreement with the constitution of the Labour Party, and formed the basis for the setting up of the Senator Nenadi Usman-led National Caretaker Committee, stripped Abure of every authority to parade himself as the National Chairman of the Labour Party,” the statement said.

The governor further urged Nigerians and other well-wishers to disregard “Abure’s laughable statement and continue to see him and his co-conspirators as a group of clowns” who are in a desperate search for a crown to wear.
