Over 3,600 residents of five Kaduna communities displaced by flood

Over 3,600 residents of five different communities in Kaduna State have been displaced by flood, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has said.

According to the agency, no less than 3,633 people from five communities in Zango Kataf Local Government Area of the state have been displaced from their homes.

The agency said the flooding which occurred on August 25, affected Fadan Tsoho, Zonzon, Zangon Kataf, Unguwan Wakili and Zonkwa communities.

NEMA Northwest Zonal Coordinator Imam Garki said, “No fewer than 3,633 persons were displaced due to flooding and houses were damaged.”

Garki also said that NEMA in partnership with the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency assessment team have discovered that the affected victims had taken refuge with relatives in neighbouring villages.

Nothing that property worth millions has been destroyed, Garki said some houses were submerged.

His words, “The assessment team also reported that farmlands, livestock that include sheep and goats were also lost to the flooding with many of them still missing.

“We have seen the level of damage in the area, we would ensure that NEMA would not leave the victims in their state, we will do our best to assist them,” he assured.
